NONE OF THE ABOVE / UNKNOWN DEVICE |
The SoundDock Original Type A is an early SoundDock which used an earlier form of charging to charge the Apple devices docked in its 30-pin connector called FireWire charging.
Your Apple device supports FireWire charging so should be charging when docked in the SoundDock.
Since it does not this indicates an issue with the docking connector which may not be making connection and therefore not charging the device.

The SoundDock Original Type A is an early SoundDock which used an earlier form of charging to charge the Apple devices docked in its 30-pin connector called FireWire charging.
Your Apple device does not support FireWire charging since it is a later Apple device which only supports USB charging.
This will produce an error message saying something such as "charging not supported by this device"
If you receive this message then it indicates the SoundDock is receiving charge fine and the docking connector is intact and it is likely an issue with the sound processor if it is not playing sound.
Please keep this in mind and continue.
We do sell an upgrade board to allow the SoundDock Original Type A to charge with USB Charge. This is called the "USB Charge Upgrade Kit"
If your SoundDock doesn't charge but does play sound and this is the only fault then the USB Charge Upgrade Kit will repair this issue.

Since your device you're testing the SoundDock with does not support FireWire we cannot give a full diagnosis.
If you were getting an error message such as:
Then it indicates the docking connector of your SoundDock is working and intact and it is much more likely an issue with your sound processor.
We would suggest in this case you order a sound processor diagnostic service and send us your sound processor, docking connector and ribbon cable for us to diagnose the issue with.
If you are not getting the above error message:-
Then it is likely to be an issue with the docking connector, inwhich case you could purchase a replacement docking connector and see if this solves the issue.
If not then you can send it back to us for a refund and carry out a "free sound processor diagnostic check"

Your SoundDock won't be able to charge the iPod Original due to it not supporting USB charging.

For the SoundDock Original there are two types which can only be distinguished by their serial number.
For this reason you will need to know the serial number of your SoundDock before we start the diagnosis.
Please find this and start again.
If your SoundDock looks like none of the previous images then it is likely you have a different kind of SoundDock which we do not repair.
We would suggest going directly to Bose for repairs on this speaker system.
